The Magic of UV Art: An Experience Rather Than Just a Painting

Writer: Debbie Vervoort Debbie Vervoort

Lately, I’ve been feeling frustrated. Sometimes, you just know you have something unique in your hands. You feel it, you see it—but how do you show it to the world? How do you sell a piece of art that needs to be experienced rather than just looked at in a photo?

My latest UV artwork is a perfect example. During the day, it’s already a colorful spectacle, but the moment a UV light turns on, an extra dimension comes to life. It’s no longer just a painting—it becomes an immersive experience. With my abstract pieces, this means a vibrant world that pulls you in—almost like you could step inside. With my Bizarism art, the UV light brings a story to life, creating depth and realism through light and shadow.

But promoting this kind of work is a challenge. How do you convey something that must be seen and felt to be understood? Photography can’t capture the full magic, and galleries don’t seem open to something new. And yes, that can be frustrating. I sometimes wonder—what’s the point? Of course, joy and creativity are my top priorities, but nothing makes me happier than knowing someone else is enjoying my art. Seeing my paintings find a home with people who truly appreciate their uniqueness is what makes it all worthwhile. Because in the end, art isn’t just paint on a canvas—it’s a piece of my heart and soul.

Even though setbacks can be discouraging, I’ve picked up my brush again. And I’m beyond excited about my newest piece! A bizarre underwater world, where light plays with the figures on the canvas in mesmerizing ways. The energy is flowing again, and that can only mean one thing: it’s time to set up another exhibition!

With love and creativity,

Debbie ❤️
